One day while browsing my Twitter stream, I ran across an excellent post from a successful blogger that detailed 65 blogging tips (or as he called them, lessons) that he'd learned in 14 years of blogging.

At the time I read the post, I'd been blogging seven years and I agreed with almost every one of the lessons. So here, I discuss three of the most important things I believe everyone who wants to make money blogging should do.

1. Start building your email list from day one. This is one of those blogging tips you can literally take to the bank. Don't wait until you have a product to sell on your blog; until your blog's design is "better"; until you have a "lot" of blog posts live; etc.

If you want to make money blogging, the first thing you need to do is build your subscriber list. I maintained blogs for years without a mailing list (in fact, I still have few affiliate blogs that don't have subscriber boxes). And guess what, I struggled to make money online. This became particularly poignant once I started to, write, self-publish and sell ebooks online.

If you capture the email addresses of your blog's visitors, then you have a chance of converting them into paying customers down the line. But if you don't, you may never get the chance to do so because they may never come back.

2. Don't be penny wise and dollar foolish. Many blogging tips discuss how to get and/or do stuff for free. And, there's definitely a place for this; but don't spend too much time trying to save a few bucks. If you don't already know, one thing you'll soon learn – particularly when trying to make money blogging – is that time is your most valuable asset.

Let me quickly tell you a personal story to illustrate this. I have a couple of Wordpress affiliate sites. I know how to do simple HTML-coded sites, but I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to do a Wordpress install. I can't tell you how many times this stopped me from moving forward with an idea. So one day a few years ago, I hired someone to do it for me – and I still use this tech guy to this day to do web design stuff for me.

He's cheap, fast and most importantly of all, saves me tons of time – time I put to better use focusing on what I CAN accomplish.

3. To make money online, stop looking for ways to make money online. This is one of those blogging tips that probably comes out of left field and causes you to go, "Huh?" Let me explain.

Many who want to make money online (whether it's blogging, or in internet marketing, etc.) spend so much time looking for that next thing – the thing that's going to make them a lot of money – that they never give anything time to work.

Here are 7 more blogging tips that help you earn more – gleaned from two bloggers with over 21 years of combined experience.
